"Faces Tell the Whole Story" an
exhibition of Paintings by Oenone Acheson.
Oenone was born in Africa and now lives in London. She has travelled widely in Africa, India, Southeast Asia and South America. Her art evokes the beauty and colour of these places and the peoples who inhabit them. Her paintings reflects the way in which the pictures capture their subjects, not with photographic certainty, factual and prosaic, but with an impressionistic glance, poetic, fleeting and mysterious.
The essence of Oenone's work, the lure that draws the viewer in to the picture, is her use of colour. From Masi women in a deserted landscape to young city dudes on a street corner, Africa radiates from the canvas. A gaucho's extravagantly swirling poncho epitomises the brio and swagger of the South American spirit. Gentler tones reflect the calm serenity of the Buddhist religious life.
